Telangana aims to improve delivery of services to citizens using AI

Telangana is set to harness the transformative power of Artificial Intelligence (AI) to enhance service delivery and government productivity, aiming to set a benchmark for AI-driven governance in India. The state has announced a comprehensive strategy to integrate AI across its operations, with the goal of improving service delivery for over one crore citizens and increasing government employee productivity by more than 20% over the next three years.

Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao unveiled the “AI Powered Telangana Strategy Document and Implementation Roadmap” at the ongoing Global AI Summit. This strategic document outlines six critical pillars to establish Telangana as an AI-powered state. The initiative aims to leverage AI to address pressing governance challenges across various sectors, including education, healthcare, agriculture, and service delivery.

The report highlights that generative AI will be utilized to drive significant improvements in these sectors, offering innovative solutions to some of the most critical issues faced by the state. The integration of AI is expected to streamline operations, enhance efficiency, and provide more effective services to citizens.

In his address at the summit, Chief Minister Rao emphasized the transformative potential of technology and innovation in shaping society and improving lives. “Our commitment to artificial intelligence is not new,” he stated. “We have already made significant strides in this area and aim to lay a strong foundation for future advancements.”

The Telangana AI Mission (T-AIM), in collaboration with Nasscom, will spearhead the implementation of the AI framework in the state. The mission is focused on developing state-specific datasets and models that account for local language and cultural nuances. Additionally, government departments and selected early-stage startups will be granted subsidized access to computing resources. This initiative is designed to foster innovation, particularly in the development of socially conscious solutions.

IT Minister D. Sridhar Babu also spoke at the event, underscoring the state government’s commitment to advancing AI technology and its potential to drive progress across various domains. The strategy aims to establish Telangana as a leader in AI-driven governance, setting a precedent for other states and nations to follow.

Through this ambitious plan, Telangana intends to not only enhance the efficiency of its operations but also to create a model for other regions to adopt. The focus on AI integration reflects the government’s dedication to leveraging cutting-edge technology to address complex challenges and improve the quality of governance and public services.
