Bharti Airtel has announced the closure of its streaming music service, Wynk Music, and will be integrating all Wynk Music employees into the broader Airtel ecosystem, according to a report by Money Control.
A company spokesperson confirmed the decision, stating, “We can confirm that Wynk Music will be sunset, and all Wynk Music employees will be absorbed into the Airtel ecosystem.”
In a strategic move to enhance its offerings, Bharti Airtel has recently entered into a partnership with Apple Inc. The collaboration aims to provide exclusive deals for Indian users on popular OTT video and music streaming services, specifically Apple TV+ and Apple Music. This partnership was officially announced on August 27.
As part of this collaboration, Airtel Xstream customers will gain access to Apple TV+ content through select premium Airtel WiFi and Postpaid plans. This integration is expected to significantly enhance the value proposition of Airtel Xstream’s fiber offerings. Furthermore, Airtel users will be granted access to Apple Music, with Wynk Premium subscribers receiving exclusive promotions from Airtel for Apple Music.
The decision to discontinue Wynk Music comes as part of Airtel’s broader strategy to streamline its services and focus on more strategically aligned partnerships. Sources suggest that the closure was driven by the service’s financial challenges and the lack of a clear monetization strategy that would make its continued operation viable.
By consolidating its resources and focusing on its new partnership with Apple, Bharti Airtel aims to strengthen its position in the OTT and streaming market while offering enhanced value and exclusive content to its customers.
